Master Plan & Building 300 Remodel
The clinical functions of the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara are now located inside Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. While Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital is currently undergoing a significant remodel for seismic retrofitting, the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara needed to remain open, operational, and functioning at full capacity even while being relocated. The challenge was to phase the project to avoid impacting and/or disrupting Cancer Center of Santa Barbara operations while optimizing efficiency of construction and cost effectiveness. Also, significant coordination with the Hospital was required as part of developing the phasing plan.
Working with Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital’s project development staff and Cancer Center of Santa Barbara user groups consisting of physicians, clinicians, technicians, and administrators, a design was achieved to meet the long-term needs of the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara. 19six Architects design efficiently organizes the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara’s functions within the hospital and increases the size of the Cancer Center’s offices and exam rooms. The main drivers of the design solution were cost effectiveness, sustainable materials, and advanced technology.
