This summer at 19six, our offices have been alive with the fresh energy and enthusiasm of our talented interns. We’re excited to introduce this dynamic group of emerging professionals who have been actively contributing to our projects while embracing our firm’s legacy of design excellence.
From day one, they’ve immersed themselves in hands-on experiences, collaborating closely with our seasoned architects, designers, and engineers. Their curiosity, creativity, and dedication are already making a meaningful impact.

Both of my brothers always pushed me to pursue a career in engineering, but I always had a creative side, which led me to architecture.

What attracted you to the 19six internship?
Family-style workplace with a smaller sized office.
What have you enjoyed most about your internship so far?
The kindness and understanding from coworkers when it comes to answering questions, as well as all the information I gain every day.
What led you to engineering?
What led me to engineering was the need to understand exactly what engineers do. I knew that
this field had a lot to do with math and science, but I wanted to know more. I had a desire to
know how things work together in the world around me. Additionally, the imbalance of men and
women engineers in this field inspired me to put myself out there.
What aspect of engineering do you enjoy most?
The aspect that I enjoy most would be attention to detail. I love to see the way building
components come together because those important details are often overlooked by people
inhabiting a building.
What are you most looking forward to in your future career?
I am most looking forward to seeing a project that I engineer be built from start to finish. I
imagine that is a good feeling!
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
In ten years, I see myself with my SE license, married and with kids in a house that I own near
the coast.

What led you to design?
I was always drawn to understanding how things go together and visualizing how to take them apart. My father was a large-scale sculptor, and I grew up helping him with his work, which ended up influencing what I wanted to study. Finding a way to combine working with people, designing structures, and problem solving.
What aspect of design do you enjoy most?
I love collaboratively problem solving and designing solutions to simple and complex problems. Creating spaces that guide the experiences of the people interacting with them.
Where do you find your inspiration?
While there is a lot of great inspiration online, the most impactful inspiration to me are the spaces that I have gotten to experience myself, and the feeling that those spaces create. Then I try to replicate either the aesthetic, or the emotion that spaces evoke.
If you could give your ten-year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Enjoy each aspect of life as much as possible, and when life gets difficult that is just an opportunity to grow and learn.

What have you enjoyed most about your internship so far?
Going on site visits and seeing how a project comes together. Visiting the Children’s Crisis Center Project was especially impactful, demonstrating 19six’s commitment to creating thoughtful, vibrant, and holistic spaces through the unique furniture and mural choices. Another highlight was choosing the exterior paint colors of a historical elementary school in Watsonville.
What led you to design?
Growing up in the Santa Cruz mountains, I have developed a strong sense of place and
community. Combined with my family’s love for art, design has become a way for me to
contribute to meaningful environments.
What aspect of design do you enjoy most?
I’m drawn to the balance between playful exploration and critical thinking, as well as the endless
possibilities that design offers. Being a good designer means staying open to everything, and
I’m excited to engage with as much of it as I can.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I draw inspiration from the world around me, particularly from nature and art. These have always
represented a sense of freedom in my life, and through my work I aim to share some of that.
What is one thing you learned in your internship here at 19six?
One thing I’ve learned is that a successful project relies more on people than design decisions.
Clear communication, mutual respect, and thoughtfulness among people will drive a project
forward, not just its design.
