The Evolution of the Firm – Looking Towards the Future
Since 1906 we have always remained dedicated to projects that enrich the community. In creating a new vision for the future, we created a name that looks forward to the next 100+ years while acknowledging our rich legacy.
Legacy Built. Award Winning. Functional Innovation.
Our team at 19six seeks to soften the lines between architecture and interior design to craft simple yet elegant spaces for people to thrive. With over 100 years of experience, 19six is built on depth of knowledge and excellence in architecture.
Founded in 1906, ours is one of the oldest and most established architectural firms in California. 19six Architecture, formerly known as PMSM Architecture, first entered the architecture industry over a century ago when A.B. Higginson, an architect and designer in his own right, saw major flaws in the design and structure of local buildings and wanted to improve their quality. What began as a family business in Santa Barbara has since grown into an architecture firm known across California for their award-winning design excellence and commitment to community impact.
From the beginning, 19six’s mission has been to develop brilliantly built structures using the best manufacturing practices in combination with world-class client support. Today, the firm has grown to serve all of California and established an enviable reputation for shaping and enriching our communities. As problem solvers and designers, we are engaged in our environment, our communities, and the people who live in them. Our team is driven by the prospect of enhancing social experience and quality of life.
While our firm continues to grow and evolve, we will always remain true to our guiding code: Dedicated to Projects that Enrich the Community. 19six is honored to continue serving K-12 schools, higher education, healthcare, performing arts, and civic markets. We seek to build our existing legacy to create timeless environments for the future and continue to expand our code’s reach within the architecture industry.
19six is an award-winning group of architects and professionals. Our work includes K-12 and higher education, healthcare, performing arts, civic structures, and master planning, as well as architectural and planning services. For over a century, we have served as an extension of our clients, working with them to design dozens of buildings to foster communities and growth.
