The Solvang Festival Theater, originally built in 1974 through a community-led effort to revitalize the town and attract visitors to the valley, recently underwent a long-overdue renovation. 19six provided programming, concept design, and fundraising support to reimagine and enhance this beloved community theater.

The renovation has transformed the venue into a dynamic open-air theater, elevating its technical capabilities while preserving the intimacy and outdoor ambiance that define its charm. The design thoughtfully integrates contemporary improvements with architectural elements that complement Solvang’s traditional character.

In close collaboration with the Solvang Festival Theater board and PCPA Pacific Conservatory Theatre, 19six developed a comprehensive program and concept design for the restoration. Key upgrades included a new control level with interconnected theatrical lighting positions—eliminating the need for pole-mounted fixtures—along with new sound and lighting booths, and completely updated seating. Additional enhancements feature a welcoming audience entry pavilion with widened gates, reconfigured entry stairs to ease congestion, and a sidewalk-level accessible ticket office with shaded windows.
