Since 1982, The American Institute of architects, California Council has celebrated outstanding architecture through the IACC Design Awards Program. Held each Spring, the Design Awards program recognizes achievements in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Urban Design, Small Projects as well as the 25-Year Award and Maybeck Award. The awards are juried by a distinguished group of architects and members of the architectural profession.

From a diverse field that includes private residences, public buildings and intimate interiors, the Jury honors those projects that excel in design excellence.
The Jury looks for projects that lift the spirit, sustain natural resources and enhances the environment. AIA Santa Barbara received sixty-two entries from licensed architects or firms within the SB County and or eligible AIA architects or firms from around the country. Each entry was judged on its own merit and evaluated for design resolution, contextualism and innovation. With criteria to demonstrate exemplary skill in resolving formal, functional, and technical requirements, entrants were challenged to achieve successful sensitivity and response to its surrounding community incorporating innovations in building materials and techniques if possible.

Industry Leadership Award for Commitment to Sustainability, 2009

PMSM Architects was chosen for the Industry Leadership Award for their work in green community college design. Working with colleges on projects incorporating sustainable design, such as the Santa Barbara City College Sports Pavilion, the Reedley College classroom building and Southeast Center, the Wray Theatre and Music Building at Rio Hondo College, the campus master plan at Cuesta College’s North County Campus and a host of others, PMSM has been focused on educational architecture for the past 50 years. PMSM’s philosophy is that sustainable design does not cost more and should provide a significant return on investment. The firm develops design solutions that are unique to the educational program, campus aesthetic, environmental characteristics of the site, and the bottom line.
