Since 1983, American School & University magazine has hosted the premier competitions for education design projects. School administrators and others interested in educational facilities look to the August Educational Interiors Showcase issue and the November Architectural Portfolio as guides to award-winning ideas and innovations for America’s schools and universities. Honored projects are published in these annual design issues and also appear on SchoolDesigns.com in the “Find a Project” database of designs.

Since 1982, The American Institute of architects, California Council has celebrated outstanding architecture through the IACC Design Awards Program. Held each Spring, the Design Awards program recognizes achievements in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Urban Design, Small Projects as well as the 25-Year Award and Maybeck Award. The awards are juried by a distinguished group of architects and members of the architectural profession.

Santa Barbara Beautiful recognizes important beautification projects throughout the city each year through its Annual and Monthly Awards Programs. From small single-family residence do-it-yourself projects to estate gardens, civic buildings, theatres, projects placing art in public places, and everything in between, these programs single out exemplary properties and the individuals responsible for those properties that expand the beauty of Santa Barbara

From a diverse field that includes private residences, public buildings and intimate interiors, the Jury honors those projects that excel in design excellence. 

The Jury looks for projects that lift the spirit, sustain natural resources and enhances the environment. AIA Santa Barbara received sixty-two entries from licensed architects or firms within the SB County and or eligible AIA architects or firms from around the country. Each entry was judged on its own merit and evaluated for design resolution, contextualism and innovation. With criteria to demonstrate exemplary skill in resolving formal, functional, and technical requirements, entrants were challenged to achieve successful sensitivity and response to its surrounding community incorporating innovations in building materials and techniques if possible.

From 2002 through 2009, awards were made to recognize and reward an individual, group or organization that has made a worthwhile contribution to the betterment of the environment or ecology of San Luis Obispo County.

The concrete masonry design awards is a program that recognizes and encourages outstanding architectural design that incorporates concrete masonry. The awards program recognizes designers, builders, craftsmen, structural engineering firm, concrete masonry supplier, and the owners.
