The new 22,000 sf two-story Child Development Center will serve the Fresno City College (FCC) campus. The purpose of the building is to provide childcare from toddler to kindergarten as a teaching demonstration to train new preschool teachers within their program. 19six worked with State Center Community College District approved program we adjusted the plan to the actual site taking into account the strong outdoor classroom program of this facility. The yard spaces have been developed to be seamless with the inside classroom via large openings for both flow and visibility. Spaces feature an emphasis on daylighting through high windows, natural materials, and warm home-like interior. Program functions are unique and include a food program service featuring a commercial kitchen to serve a warm breakfast and lunch to children; Observation rooms for community college students to observe teaching activities without disturbing the classes; A college classroom that is separate from the childcare spaces and faculty offices for child care program teachers and faculty. All childcare, student observation spaces, and commercial kitchen functions occupy the first floor. The second floor features the college classrooms, faculty offices, break rooms, and meeting rooms.
